The Brief
Bishop's Stortford's newest secondary school Avanti Grange is under construction and getting ready to welcome the first students in September 2023. While other campuses across the town were silent, with students and staff enjoying the summer holidays, it was all systems go at Avanti Meadows to transform the 1st Floor. The dilemma the school faced needed to be overcome from an operation and logistical standpoint having both primary and secondary school students using the same building for a year until the secondary school was complete. Due to a change of use to the 1st floor, Avanti needed an area which accommodated the needs of secondary school students including a fully functioning science lab, computer science room and PE changing areas. With minor adaptions to other areas such as WC’s, art room and the MUGA playing area. Adaptions to the mechanical and electrical systems within the building were inevitable with the nature of the work. With a tight 8-week programme EI Projects got to work in July to ensure the school was operational and snag free for opening at the start of the Autumn term in September.
Avanti Meadow Primary School
Avanti School are Hindu trust's, the organisation has overarching principles, with yoga and meditation as part of the curriculum and vegetarian meals provided on campus. The Avanti ethos is built on three core values of courage, curiosity and resilience. EIP prides itself on our ethos and core values, while working with Avanti we respected and took on board theirs, on site management was adapted to suit. Inductions included a section about the school’s core values and vegetarian meals were followed in our canteen. It was an interesting cultural experience that we enjoyed learning more about.
